Why the map is built retroactively
Maplapse starts from the photos you already have rather than from a recording you would need to start before you leave. Every photo with a location already knows where and when it was taken, and Maplapse assembles that information into trips and stops. That is why Maplapse works for trips from long ago too, and why there is nothing to operate while you travel.
Privacy as a principle
Maplapse runs no server for travel data: the analysis happens on your device, and Maplapse itself sends data only to your own iCloud, when you sync or share a trip. If you wish, you can pass a single photo on to an app of your choice. Maplapse contains no ads, no analytics, no trackers and no third-party software components. To show readable place names, Maplapse asks Apple's map service. The website www.maplapse.de sets no cookies either and runs on its own server in Germany.
Free, with an optional subscription
Maplapse is free to use and contains no advertising. If you want more, there is the optional Maplapse Pro subscription. The free app stays fully usable, and that includes the slideshow for three trips and three links for sharing. Pro lifts those limits and adds extras such as iCloud sync and sharing your whole map.
