Hiking: your walks as a map from your photos

After a hike, Maplapse shows you where you took photos along the way, built from the photos in your library. Nothing records while you walk, because Maplapse only reads the locations your camera saves in your photos.

Multi-day treks and huts

On a long-distance trail, Maplapse can turn every night into a stop of its own with “Overnight stops”, even when two huts or campsites are close together. You find the switch under Settings › “Travel behavior”; it is off by default. That way you can read the trek day by day straight off the map.

Viewpoints in detail

In Maplapse a stop gathers everything you photographed within its radius. Double-tap the stop and it breaks apart into sub-stops, such as the summit, the lake and the viewpoint, joined in the order you were there. A slider sets how finely Maplapse separates them: from 500 m apart or down to 250 m.

Walks close to home

If you have set a home address in Maplapse, it leaves out photos taken within that range so that everyday photos don't crowd out your trips. You set that range between 15 and 100 km. If you often hike nearby and want those walks on the map, keep the range small.

Find your best photos again

Photos you marked as favorites in Apple Photos carry a heart in Maplapse, and you can set the heart in Maplapse too. The heart filter above the map takes you straight to the few photos that matter, even at a stop with hundreds of them.
